Darren Aronofsky (born February 12, 1969) is an American filmmaker. His films are noted for their surreal, dramatic, and often disturbing elements, frequently in the form of psychological realism. For his critically acclaimed psychological horror Black Swan (2010), he was nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards, British Academy Film Awards and Golden Globe Awards. He earned acclaim and controversy for his next films, the Biblical epic Noah (2014), the psychological horror film Mother! (2017) and the psychological drama The Whale (2022). He then directed the dark comedy crime film Caught Stealing (2025).
