Thelma Furness, Viscountess Furness (née Morgan, 23 August 1904 – 29 January 1970), was a mistress of Edward VIII while he was Prince of Wales. She was supplanted in his affections by Wallis Simpson, for whose sake Edward abdicated, becoming the Duke of Windsor. She was the maternal aunt of the writer, fashion designer, and socialite Gloria Vanderbilt.

During most of Furness's relationship with the Prince of Wales, she was married to British nobleman Marmaduke Furness, 1st Viscount Furness. They married in 1926 and divorced in 1933, the year before Thelma's relationship with the Prince of Wales ended.

Furness's first name was pronounced in Spanish fashion as "TEL-ma".

Edvard VIII (Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David Windsor; født 23. juni 1894 på White Lodge i Richmond upon Thames i England, død 28. mai 1972 i Paris i Frankrike) var konge av Storbritannia, Irland, samveldelandene og keiser av India fra 20. januar 1936 til han abdiserte den 11. desember samme år.

Han var den eldste sønn til Georg V av Storbritannia og Mary av Teck. Hans far var den andre sønn til fyrsten av Wales (senere kong Edvard VII, og prinsessen av Wales (tidligere prinsesse Alexandra av Danmark). Hans mor var den eldste datter til hertugen og hertuginnen av Teck. Han var oldebarnet til dronning Victoria, og ble derfor titulert Hans Kongelige Høyhet fra fødselen av.

Edvard fikk tittelen fyrste av Wales i 1911, ble utdannet som sjøoffiser og tjenestegjorde under første verdenskrig ved vestfronten. Konge av Storbritannia, Irland og øvrige britiske dominioner samt keiser av India fra 20. januar 1936 til sin abdikasjon 11. desember 1936. Guvernør på Bahamas 1940–45.

Hans offisielle tittel som regjerende konge var Edward the Eighth, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas, King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India.
